Canada’s First Student Pilot to Solo an Electric Airplane

Canadian aviation history was made again at Sealand Flight when 18-year-old Catherine Check became the first Canadian student pilot to learn to fly and complete a solo flight in an electric airplane. With just under 10 hours of training in the Pipistrel Velis Electro, Catherine is well on her way to reaching her dream of becoming a pilot.

This milestone demonstrates the real-world potential of electric aircraft in flight training. The Velis Electro offers remarkable advantages: ultra-quiet, zero-emissions, and cost-efficient compared to conventional training aircraft. It’s a glimpse into the future of sustainable aviation, and Catherine’s achievement brings the industry closer to reducing aviation emissions.

Sealand is very proud to have Catherine as our student and are thrilled for her accomplishment! Congratulations Catherine!
